Trauma-Informed Care Time for Organizational Change

VISION STATEMENT

Texas Panhandle Centers embraces the perspective and life experiences of those we serve and employ. We strive to utilize strengths-based language along with culturally sensitive practices, engaging others respectfully in light of possible traumas.

TICTOC Employee Recognitions

We are looking for employees who have demonstrated trauma-informed care with their coworkers and /or consumers. Trauma-informed care can be broken down into 7 domains.

  1. Early screening and comprehensive assessment
  2. Consumer-driven care and services
  3. Wellness and trauma-informed, educated and responsive workforces
  4. Provision of wellness-oriented trauma-informed, evidence-based and emerging best practices
  5. Create safe and secure work environments
  6. Engage in community outreach and partnership building
  7. Ongoing performance improvement and evaluation

These domains highlight areas that promote trauma-informed care in our workplace relationships both with coworkers and people we serve. For example, someone may engage in consumer-driven care and services by:

  • Asking for permission from a consumer when proposing changes in their care
  • Ensuring that they feel valued and respected in the service planning process
  • Spending time with our individuals and finding out what is important to them
  • Identifying barriers they may encounter in accessing services and working to remove them to the extent possible

Likewise, if someone is engaging in community outreach and partnership building, it may look like:

  • Compiling resources that also demonstrate the trauma-informed care principles so we can provide appropriate referrals for our individuals
  • Making connections with other community organizations and getting the word out about what services we can offer here at TPC should they encounter a person who would benefit from our services
  • Ensuring that contact information is accurate for resources provided
  • Taking the time to contact referral sources and learn about their processes, like who qualifies for services, what can they expect when signing up, what each place has to offer, etc.
