Location & Program:Amarillo, Texas – Community Mental Health Center (CMHC)
Salary Range:
Salary: $15.66/hr
Shift Available: Full-time
Essential duties and responsibilities:
- Staff will maintain ethical and professional communications at all times using respectful Trauma-Informed Care language
- The person in this position will serve as the peer support specialist for people in the Community Mental Health Center SAMHSA grant program
- As part of the therapeutic treatment team, this person will provide wellness activities that promote recovery
- Peer support services will be provided in office and community settings
- The person in this position will complete a peer certification process if they are not already a certified peer support specialist
- The therapeutic team in which this person will be a part of will work to promote the recovery goals of the individual in treatment
- They will use a shared decision making model and offer instruction and support to help people develop the skills they need to facilitate their individual recovery
Required qualifications to be successful in the job:
- High school diploma or equivalency (GED) and must have received mental health services for one (1) year cumulative, for a diagnosis that is treated in the target population for Texas and is now in recovery
- If not already certified, must complete the Mental Health Peer Specialist certification within one (1) year from hire date
- To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty in a satisfactory manner
- This position will require flexible work schedules to accommodate for the needs of participants in the program
- Must pass all background clearances
- Must be able to become credentialed as a Certified Peer Specialist (CPS)

- Must have a minimum of eighth grade reading, comprehension level as evidenced by score on the Adult Basic Learning Examination (ABLE) test
- Or one semester (12 semester hours) of accredited college work
- Must have a valid Texas driver’s license and be insurable under agency vehicle policy
- Must be 18 years of age or older
